PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The Senior Learning and Development (L&D) Advisor will partner with our legal and business services teams to identify capability needs and to design, deliver and evaluate learning solutions that build the skills, behaviours and commercial acumen needed for high performance and to deliver our firm's strategy. You will ensure our people are equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving legal profession, including adapting to new technologies and ways of working.

You will lead a range of career development programmes, learning pathways and strategic talent initiatives, including AI enablement. Working closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts, you will help build broader skills and commercial acumen at all levels and across our legal groups and business services functions internationally.

THE TEAM 

The Learning & Development team sits within our Human Resources function. It is led by our Head of Learning & Development and includes a Senior Manager, Manager, three Senior Advisors, an Advisor and Administrators. The team is highly regarded, both internally and externally, for its knowledge, expertise and quality, and is central to promoting a culture of continuous development across the firm.

Our work is constantly evolving to reflect the internal and external environment, so you will have significant scope to be involved in a wide range of projects, collaborating with colleagues across the firm.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE 

You will take a leading role in developing the capabilities our people need to achieve our strategic goals, supporting performance, career development, and future workforce readiness, including: 
Learning Needs Analysis and Stakeholder Management 

  • Build trusted relationships with Partners, senior leaders and key stakeholders, globally, to understand evolving business challenges and opportunities and translate these into learning needs, whilst influencing decisions and securing engagement for learning initiatives.
  • Support the firm's approach to building future skills and AI fluency, helping colleagues develop confidence in the effective use of emerging technologies.
  • Monitor learning, talent and technology trends and recommend improvements to keep our learning offer relevant and effective.
  • Support the development and implementation of firm-wide learning strategies that enable successful adoption of firm initiatives and transformation.  

Design, Delivery and Evaluation 

  • Design, facilitate and evaluate impactful learning solutions that build future workforce capability and support the firm's strategic priorities, delivered through face-to-face, virtual, and digital learning experiences, tailored to international audiences across multiple levels of experience and seniority.
  • Design and deliver learning that helps colleagues adapt to transformation and effectively lead teams working in AI-enabled environments.
  • Design and facilitate bespoke team sessions linked to performance enhancement and strategic outcomes where required.
  • Robust evaluation of learning solutions, reporting back to key stakeholders, and making recommendations on continuous improvement of learning. 

Coaching and embedding an ambitious Learning Culture  

  • Support leaders and managers in developing effective leadership capabilities.  
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and innovation.
  • Promote the responsible and effective use of AI to enhance individual, team, and organisational performance.
  • Champion the L&D offer with individuals, teams, leaders, and stakeholders firmwide.
  • Support legal professionals to embed a business development culture, focused on relationship growth, AG's sector approach, and being client shaped.  

Other

  • Support wider strategic talent projects as required.
  • Support the L&D function in delivering innovative approaches to learning design, learner experience, and operational effectiveness, including the appropriate use of AI and emerging technologies. 

AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE REQUIRED

  • Strong knowledge of L&D best practice, with experience across the full learning cycle including needs analysis, design, delivery, and evaluation.  
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI, and an interest in how they can enhance learning and performance.
  • Proven experience designing, delivering, and evaluating high-impact career development programmes or learning pathways adapting content and delivery approach to suit different audiences.
  • Experience developing learning solutions that support capability building, AI adoption and behavioural change.
  • Strong consulting and needs analysis skills, with the ability to turn business needs into practical learning solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility, secure buy-in and effectively challenge and advise stakeholders at all levels, including partners and senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships across functions, offices, and levels of seniority, collaborating with colleagues, subject matter experts, external suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver successful learning outcomes.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and translate complex concepts into practical learning experiences.
  • A curious, innovative mindset with a passion for learning and continuous improvement.
  • Strong digital capability, including proficiency in Microsoft 365, learning technologies (ideally Articulate, Adobe Premiere, Indesign and Photoshop and VEED) and other digital platforms, with confidence adopting and experimenting with new tools and ways of working.
  • Professional experience in learning, talent, or capability development. If this is has been in a professional services or legal environment that would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience of working in international organisations and/or fluency in a second language in the locations we work is advantageous.
