PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • Addleshaw Goddard has outlined an ambitious strategy for growth by 2030, and an increased profile in the City of London is a central element. This fixed-term maternity cover role will support the firm's client feedback programme and client insight activity during a period of maternity leave, helping to ensure continuity across client feedback, reporting and follow-up under the direction of the Head of BD (Clients and Sectors) and senior BD colleagues.
  • Working closely with the Head of BD (Clients and Sectors), senior BD colleagues and the BD analyst function, the role will support the firm's client experience platform, sector briefings and client programmes, helping to keep them running smoothly and supporting the firm's 2030 growth strategy and commitment to client experience.

THE TEAM

The Business Development team is a centralised function advising and supporting the Firm in its marketing, sales support and business development activities. The key drivers for the team are to ensure we support the development and implementation of the firm's strategy and in particular help:

  • Ensure the firm becomes a premium international law firm
  • Drive profitable revenue growth through sectors and clients
  • Help the partners and fee earners to provide the best client experience
  • Develop and deliver a clear brand proposition through our sector focus

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

In this role, you will:

  • Support the firm's client feedback programme and its administration under the direction of the Head of BD (Clients and Sectors) and senior BD colleagues. Support outreach communications and interview scheduling; assist with client outreach and interviews; convert transcripts into draft reports, summaries and actions for Partners and teams; help identify themes for management reporting and internal communications; and handle confidential information in line with the firm's data-handling requirements.
  • Support administration of the firm's Qualtrics/client experience (CX) platform, including users, licensing, survey build and logic, dashboards, training and supplier relationships. Assist with vendor, procurement and renewal work alongside Procurement, Finance and the PMO, and support wider business functions with onboarding, training and best-practice guidance.
  • Help prepare client and market intelligence, including white-space and client relationship analyses across practice areas, sectors and offices, including international and regional key client programmes. Deliver clear analysis in Excel or equivalent formats to support client insight, sector planning and management decision-making.
  • Collate content for the regular Sector Briefing for Partners across the firm's nine sectors, covering sector trends, why clients care, questions to ask clients, how the firm can help and recent wins. Support sector update emails and round-ups, coordinate branding and distribution with sector shop-window materials, assist with sub-sector leader role profiles, and work with international offices, including the Middle East, on cross-border white-space and working groups feeding into sector strategies.
  • Support client programmes and BD activity, including tracking BD spend against budget and processing cost codes, purchase orders and approvals rather than signing off. Support client hospitality and sponsorship arrangements, including guest management, bookings and client meeting-room arrangements. Coordinate the administration of Flourish and Future Leaders nominations, including deadlines, eligibility and approvals, and maintain alumni and nominee trackers while liaising with programme facilitators on logistics and communications.
  • Coordinate projects and stakeholders across Partners, BD teams and business services, maintaining clear actions, responsibilities and deadlines. Support the effective delivery of client and sector initiatives and contribute to a consistent, high-quality client experience across the firm. This developing role offers the opportunity to build practical experience in client feedback, client insight and business development while working under the direction of the Head of BD (Clients and Sectors) and senior BD colleagues.

AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in business development, marketing or a professional services environment would be desirable, but is not essential, together with good IT skills including Microsoft Office.
  • An interest in client feedback, client experience and survey platforms such as Qualtrics would be desirable, together with a willingness to learn how these tools are used.
  • Good analytical skills, with the ability to produce clear client, market and relationship analyses and well-written reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Listening, summarising and communication skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with colleagues, senior stakeholders and clients.
  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential client feedback, insight and data, together with enthusiasm to learn and develop in a business development role.
  • Good collaboration and stakeholder-management skills, enabling you to work effectively across Partners, BD teams and business services.
  • A highly organised and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities, projects, budgets and deadlines, and to get up to speed quickly in a fixed-term maternity cover role.
  • A Marketing, Business, Communications or Law degree (or equivalent), or some relevant experience, would be advantageous but is not essential.
