PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

•    As part of our AG2030 Growth Strategy, we are seeking an ambitious Managing Associate in our Real Estate Disputes team to provide expert legal support and representation in high-value, high-profile, and often complex litigation matters, while taking a leading role in matter delivery, client relationships and the development of junior team members.


THE TEAM

•    Part of the Real Estate Group, the Real Estate Disputes team is led by 7 Partners across Leeds, Manchester and London. The Manchester team is made up of 2 Partners, 2 Legal Directors, 3 Managing Associates and an excellent cohort of Associates, offering a supportive environment with peers and senior lawyers to work alongside. 
•    Clients include an impressive range of landlords, tenants, developers, investors, and corporate occupiers, as well as bank & insolvency practitioners. 
•    The Manchester team have a wealth of experience in acting in high-value and complex litigation, including reported cases before the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
•    More generally we undertake the usual contentious property matters including dilapidations, lease renewals, rent review, professional negligence and general property management work.
•    Our lawyers are known for their technical excellence, commercial acumen, and strategic litigation approach, often involved in precedent-setting and cross-border matters.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

•    You can expect a varied and broad mix of work across all forms of real estate disputes, with a particular emphasis on leading complex and high-value matters. Responsibilities will include dealing with a full range of landlord and tenant matters including lease renewals (contested and uncontested), dilapidation claims, service of break notices, forfeiture and possession actions.
•    You will act on a range of high-value, high-profile and complex litigation matters, including those for retailers with extensive property portfolios. Clients include developers, landlords, tenants, banks/ financial institutions, insolvency practitioners and professional advisors.
•    You will take day-to-day ownership of matters, leading strategy, managing client relationships and driving cases forward efficiently and commercially, while working closely with Partners and Legal Directors on the most complex, high-profile or business-critical mandates.
•    You will play a significant role in supporting key clients of the Division and the firm, helping to strengthen and deepen those relationships through excellent client service, commercial insight and responsiveness.
•    As a more senior member of the team, you will be expected to supervise, mentor and develop junior lawyers, supporting effective delegation and helping to maintain the team's high standards of technical quality and client delivery.
•    You will also be encouraged to contribute meaningfully to business development activity, including identifying opportunities with existing clients, supporting pitches and panel appointments, building your internal and external profile, and helping the team develop new relationships in line with the firm's growth ambitions.

YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

To be successful in this role:
•    Be an England & Wales -qualified Solicitor with at least 6 years' post-qualification experience in Real Estate Disputes.
•    Possess strong technical expertise across a broad range of contentious real estate matters, with the confidence and capability to lead on complex landlord and tenant disputes, as well as related litigation.
•    Be able to manage significant matters with an appropriate level of autonomy, exercising sound judgement on legal, procedural, and strategic issues, while recognising when escalation is required.
•    Demonstrate a commercial, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to align legal advice to clients' commercial objectives and broader risk considerations.
•    Have excellent client relationship management skills, including experience acting as a trusted day-to-day adviser and contributing to the development and growth of client relationships.
•    Possess strong organisational and matter management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities, delegate effectively, and consistently deliver high-quality work across multiple matters.
