Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a senior lawyer to join our market leading Real Estate Investments team in London. This is a senior role for a qualified lawyer with substantial post qualification experience (typically 6+ years PQE) who is looking to take a lead role in complex, high value real estate investment and Private Equity Real Estate and corporate real estate transactions.

Working closely with Partners Daniel Woolston, Liam Diggins, Simon Pollock and Farhod Moghadam, you will play a central role in advising many of the firm's most significant clients on sophisticated real estate investment structures, corporate real estate M&A, joint ventures, and strategic asset management matters. You will work alongside a talented team of lawyers and legal professionals, helping to drive transactions, develop client relationships and support the continued growth of the practice.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with strong experience gained within a Private Equity Real Estate or Corporate Real Estate, Real Estate Investments or Real Estate M&A practice.

Our Real Estate Investments team is recognised as one of the leading specialist practices in the UK, advising on PERE and corporate real estate transactions, indirect real estate investments, real estate-backed joint ventures, and complex ownership structures. We advise on some of the most significant and innovative transactions across the real estate market, acting for a broad range of domestic and international clients including private equity real estate funds, institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, asset managers, pension funds, REITs, developers and financial institutions.

Our client base includes organisations such as Ares, Angelo Gordon, Aviva, Battersea Power Station, British Land, Federated Hermes, Greystar, Patron Capital, Pension Insurance Corporation, Realty Income and Royal London Asset Management. What to Expect in this Role

As a senior lawyer in the team, you will play a leadership role in the team, with responsibility for:

  • Leading and supervising complex corporate M&A transactions in the real estate sector, including cross border deals and portfolio transactions.
  • Advising on all aspects of the structuring, establishment, operation, restructuring and exit of joint ventures and other indirect real estate investment structures (including corporates, partnerships and JPUTs).
  • Acting as a senior point of contact for a wide range of clients, including private equity real estate managers, institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, REITs and developers/operators, providing clear strategic advice and managing key relationships.
  • Driving transactions forward: taking day to day responsibility for matter conduct, managing risk, project managing multi disciplinary teams and coordinating input from fee earners in tax, finance, real estate and other relevant disciplines.
  • Handling complex asset and portfolio management mandates in the real estate sector, including reorganisations, refinancings and exits.
  • Contributing to the development of the Real Estate Investments practice through business development initiatives, including leading and supporting pitches, thought leadership and client relationship programmes.
  • Supervising and developing junior lawyers and trainees, providing constructive feedback, supporting their technical and commercial development, and helping to build a cohesive, high performing tea

Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise

  • Deep technical expertise in the legal framework and market practice relevant to corporate real estate transactions (appropriate to a senior lawyer level), ideally gained in a leading private practice environment.
  • A strong track record of leading or front line managing negotiations on share sale and purchase agreements, joint venture arrangements, and related documentation, including experience across a range of structures (corporates, partnerships, JPUTs and fund/club deals).
  • Proven ability to assume full day to day responsibility for complex matters, including running conditions precedent processes, overseeing workstreams, managing timetables and ensuring high quality delivery with appropriate partner involvement.
  • Commercial acumen and sector awareness: the ability to understand clients' investment strategies, risk appetite and commercial drivers, and to translate that into practical, solutions focused legal advice.
  • Strong client relationship and business development skills: enthusiasm for building and maintaining your own network of contacts, identifying opportunities, and contributing to the team's growth through pitches, know how, seminars and client facing initiatives.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues clearly and succinctly, and with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Leadership and team skills: being self aware, approachable and collaborative, able to supervise and mentor others, recognise when colleagues need support, and both deliver and act on constructive feedback.
  • A proactive, resilient, and organised approach to managing workload in a fast paced environment, with a strong commitment to delivering outstanding client service
