WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE 

As a Senior Trade Mark Attorney, you will:

  • Lead the management and strategic development of domestic and international trade mark portfolios for a diverse client base.
  • Advise clients on trade mark clearance, registrability, filing strategies, portfolio optimisation and risk management.
  • Manage complex prosecution matters before the UKIPO, EUIPO and WIPO, delivering commercially focused solutions aligned with client objectives.
  • Act on contentious trade mark matters including oppositions, cancellations, invalidity and revocation actions, domain name disputes and broader brand protection issues.
  • Collaborate closely with IP litigators and commercial IP specialists on strategic and business-critical matters.
  • Advise clients on brand enforcement strategies across digital channels, online marketplaces and emerging technologies.
  • Support clients on the IP aspects of commercial transactions, including licensing, franchising, collaborations, acquisitions and investments.
  • Build trusted relationships with key client stakeholders by understanding their commercial priorities and delivering pragmatic, solution-oriented advice.
  • Play a visible role in business development activity, contributing to pitches, client presentations, thought leadership and market engagement initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, providing supervision, coaching and technical guidance.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the practice through innovation, process improvement and knowledge sharing.

AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

Essential

  • Qualified UK Trade Mark Attorney.
  • Significant post-qualification experience advising on trade mark and brand protection matters.
  • Experience managing substantial international trade mark portfolios.
  • Proven expertise in trade mark clearance, prosecution and contentious proceedings before the UKIPO and EUIPO.
  • Experience advising clients on brand protection, enforcement and portfolio strategy.
  • Established track record of building and managing client relationships.
  • Experience supervising and developing junior professionals.
  • Comfortable coordinating multi-jurisdictional matters and working with overseas counsel.

Desirable

  • Experience advising on online brand enforcement and platform protection strategies.
  • Exposure to sectors such as retail, consumer, technology, media, life sciences or financial services.
  • Experience supporting the IP aspects of corporate transactions and commercial agreements.
  • Existing network within the trade mark and intellectual property market.
