PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our IT Development team as a Software Engineer on a fixed-term basis, contributing to the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software solutions that support business objectives and user needs. You will help shape and build scalable, modern applications using Microsoft technologies, whilst contributing to the firm's digital capabilities. The role offers the opportunity to work across technical initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and ways of working. This is a great role to see the direct impact of your work, contribute ideas from discovery through to delivery, and gain experience across modern cloud, integration and AI-enabled technologies.

This fixed-term role provides maternity cover within a busy and dynamic IT Development team. You will work across a varied portfolio of projects, contributing quickly while developing experience of the firm's applications, technologies and ways of working. We deliver business-critical, enterprise-grade solutions to a high professional standard, balancing pace and innovation with security, reliability, maintainability and an excellent user experience.

THE TEAM 

The IT Development team designs, builds and supports software solutions that improve how colleagues work and how the firm delivers services to clients. Based in Leeds or Manchester and working closely with colleagues across the wider IT function, the team combines software engineering, quality assurance and product expertise to deliver secure, scalable and user-centred applications. The team is continuing to modernise its technology estate, strengthen its engineering practices and explore how AI-enabled tools can improve delivery.

Our internal clients include Fee Earners, Legal Technologists and colleagues across Business Services, with solutions supporting day-to-day operations, client delivery and the firm's wider strategic priorities. You will help colleagues to work more efficiently, improve access to trusted information, and enable the firm to deliver a consistent, high-quality service to clients. You will be joining a team with excellent in-house knowledge, close partnership with users and end-to-end ownership of solutions. 

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE 

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality software applications using C# .NET and Azure.
• Contribute to front-end development, helping to create seamless and engaging user experiences.
• Support the delivery of successful projects through an understanding of technical design, visual design and software architecture.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including QA, IT Infrastructure and Product Owners, to deliver solutions aligned with business needs.
• Apply DevOps techniques to improve development and deployment processes. 

AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

• Experience working with Microsoft technologies, including C# .NET and Azure Cloud.
• Front-end development capabilities with a focus on user experience, experience Blazor Web Assembly is an advantage but not a requirement.
• Understanding of technical design, visual design and software architecture.
• Familiarity with modern development tools and technologies, including AI-enabled tools such as GitHub Copilot.
• Knowledge of DevOps techniques and modern software development practices.
• Experience of working in Scrum and Agile environments.
