PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Simply, this role is about delivering unignorable, unforgettable, persuasive – and ultimately effective - marketing projects, campaigns and communications. Specifically, you will be responsible for developing and delivering a mixture of go-to-market propositions, marketing plans, sales materials, content, and multi-channel campaigns. You will be focused on helping to open-up client conversations, generate new leads or build our brand. In addition to thinking strategically and commercially, the role will be very hands-on – you will contribute actively to message and content development, making the most of different channels, and figuring out how to convert communications into opportunity. You will also analyse what is working and what isn't, and will advise the firm on how to improve marketing effectiveness.
You will work alongside our Head of Marketing, Business Development professionals, the firm's Partners, an internal team of PR, Web, Events and Design specialists, and external agencies as required. Together, you will deliver the most admired, memorable, and effective marketing communications and campaigns not just in the legal sector, but in all of B2B marketing. We consequently believe the role is the best, most surprising role in business marketing, with potential limited only by your creativity, commerciality, and drive.
This role is a 12-month, fixed term contract providing maternity cover for an existing team member. The role may require occasional travel, and will include a minimum of three days per week in an Addleshaw Goddard office.
THE TEAM
Addleshaw Goddard is a London headquartered, international, full-service law firm that consistently delivers high-quality outcomes for our clients globally. We have been advising clients for 250 years, and today we support over 5000 of the world's most respected organisations. We help them in over 50 areas of business law, across more than 100 countries.
This role sits within Addleshaw Goddard's multi award-winning Marketing and Business Development team, whose focus in on helping our expert Partners and other lawyers to win business and deliver excellent client service. In recent years this team has been named Marketing Week's Marketing Team of the Year, received the Creative Gold at the B2B Marketing Awards, and won the Best Business-to-Business Sponsorship at the UK Sponsorship Awards.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Head of Marketing to manage and inspire a small team of Marketing Managers and Executives.
- You will be personally responsible for delivering several of the firm's most strategic, commercially important and high-profile marketing projects and campaigns. In particular, a key focus will be supporting the firm's Financial Services sector, working closely with the Head of Sector, Partners and Financial Services Business Development team to develop and deliver strategic marketing campaigns. You will collaborate closely with the team throughout, providing regular updates on activity, progress and results, and ensuring marketing plans remain aligned with the sector's priorities and growth ambitions.
- Advise partners and business development professionals on the best ways to use modern marketing communications to help them achieve their growth and brand ambitions. Your output will be thought-through and ambitious - but achievable - content, client outreach and campaign plans and materials to support the firm's offices, sectors and legal practices. You will then be responsible for delivering those plans.
- Help our business development teams and partners around the world to write or improve their business units' messages, value propositions, and marketing materials. If value propositions are competitively weak, you will help colleagues to identify corrective measures.
- Help our firm identify whether account-based tactics or mass marketing tactics are appropriate on individual projects - managing all key stakeholders to buy into your recommendations.
- Base your communications and campaign plans on client, market, and competitor analysis.
- Identify the optimum channel mix to ensure project or campaign success, covering email, podcasts, web, social, video, SEO, GEO, advertising, events, sponsorship, PR, direct mail, and any other appropriate channel on a case-by-case basis.
- Set project and campaign objectives and KPIs; manage projects against those objectives; report on progress; and identify key lessons learned and improvement plans where required.
- Manage the development and publication of a wide range of marketing content, including producing sales presentations, web pages, event invitations, social media posts, advertising and more besides. You will need to be able to write and self-produce compelling materials, and also work with Addleshaw Goddard's lawyers and external suppliers to do so. Additionally, you will work on the firm's podcasts, which will include sourcing and briefing speakers and providing oversight during the recording and production process, as well as providing direction on the content, promotional activity and ‘Calls to Action.'
- Bring your own creative ideas to the table to make our communications stand out from the crowd, but also partner effectively with colleagues and specialist agencies to ensure our communications and campaign plans have the best chance of getting noticed and converting.
- Project manage virtual teams of specialists, including PR, Events, Design, Web and others, to ensure effective delivery and follow-up of projects – on time and on budget.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the world of marketing and advise the BD Leadership Team if we should be embracing new approaches.
- Contribute additional ideas, commercial thinking and energy that will help us stimulate client demand, generate more new leads, and help us differentiate our brand in the market.
AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
- We are looking for a candidate with the vision, commerciality, gravitas, tenacity, creativity and marketing skillsets to help our firm stand out from the crowd, earn client attention and to turn attention into opportunity. We are seeking candidates that can think both smart and big in terms of communications, client outreach, propositions and campaigns - and have the drive, influence and commercial nous to turn them into results. If you are brimming with ideas and the drive to deliver award-winning marketing communications and projects, you'll fit in well here.
- You must have at least 10 years of experience working in B2B marketing.

You must be an effective communicator, a capable problem solver, and have the personal influence to inspire and persuade senior colleagues to embrace bold, modern marketing. Advising people, the ability to say ‘no' constructively, the ability to handle escalations in a calm and professional manner, and the ability to win hearts and minds is central to this role. Passion, positivity and energy are important, desirable traits for our team members.
- You must be able to help the firm write and then convey sales messages in a distinctive, persuasive, visually impactful and client-centric way. Strong copywriting skills and a design eye are essential.
- You must have a strong, proven track record in wording effectively with Business Development professionals.
- You must be highly organised, an excellent project manager, be able to manage concurrent projects, prioritise workload according to business need, and ensure completion against tight deadlines. We operate in highly competitive markets, and so you must be able to operate at a high quality in demanding situations.
- You have a track record in writing effective plans.
- You must be able to demonstrate how you have worked towards KPIs and used analytics to inform decision-making and improve marketing performance. You must be analytical, results-oriented and be able to set SMART objectives.
- Your work to date must include a strong background in lead generation, account-based marketing and brand building. Your portfolio of work to date would include a mixture of tactical activity in most of the following areas: in-person or online events; market research; social media programmes; content marketing; account-based marketing (ABM); podcasting; thought leadership; PR; SEO; GEO; advertising; email marketing; video marketing; influencer activity; sponsorships; direct mail.
- You will ideally have experience of managing other marketers – creating the right environment for them to flourish, including setting goals, tracking progress, investing in their personal development, and inspiring them to achieve what they didn't think was possible. Additionally, you must also be experienced at leading virtual teams, briefing agencies, and managing supplier delivery.
- We work hard, but love what we do and like to have fun in our team. If you feel that way too, we'd love to meet you.
